Melanie Martinez - Musician Brooklyn Concert reviews
A Consummate Showman - Barnum would be proud!
Melanie Martinez, a musician, clearly recognizes that a "performance" involves more than just replicating "recorded versions" of her songs. Engaging and chatty, Melanie connected with the audience in a way that few artists attempt (or can!). The band and Melanie displayed the expertise and poise of seasoned entertainers by adjusting their set on the fly, with audience members suggesting tracks through her quirky (and somewhat arbitrary) "Spectacular Spinning Set List" and "Hammer of Songs." Go-Go Dancers and the glamorous stage hostess "Katya" in a cage further contributed to the overall vibe of a "speak-easy lounge act." Even those in the crowd who weren't invited on stage by Melanie felt included in the performance.
